-As Lofa County Presents 2021 Trophy To Her Office
Wednesday, February 17, 2021: The Steering Committee of the Lofa County Sports Association on Tuesday February 16, 2021, presented the National County meet trophy to Liberia’s first female Vice President Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor at her capitol Building Office.
VP Howard-Taylor is one of the prominent daughters of Lofa County. This win is the first National County Sports Meet Trophy since the establishment of the county in 1956.
The Vice President lauded the team and the county on the achievement of such a great feat for the first time in the history of the county meet.
She explained that though things are tough, the people of Lofa County demonstrated true commitment to their team which subsequently led to the victory.
Vice President Howard-Taylor described sports as a major unifying force that must be given serious attention in the effort towards fostering reconciliation in the country.
She stressed the need for counties participating in the national county meet to put in place measures to maintain and enhance the capacity of their players and technical staff in order to prepare them for the national team.
Vice President Howard-Taylor said it was time to review allotments to various sporting disciplines in the national budget to enable adequate financial support to sports
She encouraged Senator Steve Zargo of Lofa County who accompanied the team and the committee to the office to begin this initiative with other members of the Senate.
She then pledged her support to the Lofa county sports steering committee in ensuring the success of the pending jamboree organized by citizens of Lofa expected to take place at the ATS on February 20, 2021.
For his part, the superintendent of Lofa county William Tamba Kamba thanked the Vice President for giving them the audience while disclosing that the committee is undertaking several initiatives to ensure Lofa maintains her status in the National County Sports Meet.
The Lofa County Superintendent further hailed VP Howard-Taylor’s commitment to the Steering Committee assuring that they will collaborate with her in ensuring the success of plan activities of the development of sports in the county.
