A 60-year-old man, Shaari Hasan, is facing the prospect of spending the next 20 years in jail after he allegedly raped a female goat to death.
The incident occurred in Malaysia, news reports monitored by 1st News in that country revealed.
The man was charged with having carnal intercourse with a female goat that subsequently died.
Hasan has been charged before judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammed Redza. Equally important, Hasan, a widower was accused of committing the offence behind a house at Kampung Sungai Buaya; located in Rawang at about 1.30pm on July 27, 2021.
Section 377 of the Penal Code in Malaysia dictates that voluntarily having carnal intercourse with an animal is punishable with a maximum jail term of 20 years and are also liable to a fine or whipping, Free Malaysia Today reports.
Also, bail was opposed for the suspect in view of the grievous nature of the offence.
However, lawyer Zolazrai Zolkapli, who represented the suspect, said his client should be freed; pending the outcome of the trial since it was a bailable offence. But the judge refused bail and fixed the case for mention on December 24.
Police chief, Arsad Kamaruddin said the incident occurred on July 28 after the goat’s owner heard the animal making strange sounds. Upon checking, she discovered a man, whom she knew, half-naked next to the goat. The suspect fled the scene.
Arsad said that when she checked on the goat, she found it had died.
Thereafter, the owner of the dead goat proceeded to lodge a police report.
