
The Vice President of Nigeria, Osibanjo, former President , Olusegun Obasanjo, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, ex-Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, Major Gen. EB Opaleye, Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, RM Oba Adewale Toorungbowa, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Oba Oladele Ogunbade, and Pastor Dr. Samson Ekwutus Igwe, President of the Apostolic Church , Ketu, Lagos are some of the eminent personalities expected to grace the 70th birthday celebration of Primate of the Church of the Lord, the most Reverend Dr. Rufus Okikiola Ositelu.
Others who are expected are Rev. Abimbola Esther Ajayi, Baba Aladura elder Israel Adewo, Rev. Prof. Dietrich Werner, oba Frederick Obateru Akinrutan and Arch bishop Dr. Chibuzor R.Opoko, Archishop of Umuahia Diocese and
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the chairman of the platinum anniversary planning committee, Rev. Olusoga Badejo said apart from the eminent personalities that are expected to grace the occasion, there are other activities also lined up to make the one-week programme a huge success.
According to him, the activities would start from February 21 to 27,2022 with some events taking place in Ogere, Ogun state and Lagos.
Among other activities lined up are visitation to hospitals, old peoples; homes, motherless babies’s homes, free medical check-up, colloquium, football competition, presentation of glasses and certificates of merits.
Buttressing his point, Rvd. Badejo said nothing less than 70 students of institutions of higher learning in the country would be given scholarship awards, adding that most of the awardees are non-members of the church.
He noted that in the last 11 years, about 350 students have so far benefitted from the scheme initiated by the board of trustees of Rufus Okikiola Ositelu Foundation(ROOF). The initiative, he said is to help cushion the effect of brilliant students from humble background on their school fees and other sundry matters.
The chairman of the planning committee also said out of the 437 patients who were screened for diverse eyes challenges, 200 of them were recommended for eye glasses, which will be given to them on February 26, at the Banquet ceremony.
He added that certificates of merit would be awarded to over 60 participants, who were trained in various skill acquisition programmes “to allow them have a hitch free and effortless take-off of the various skills they have learnt”
Reeling out the achievements of the celebrant in various fields of human endeavour such as in education, welfare, social, spiritualism, housing projects, publications, Badejo described Ositelu as “ a God sent reverend to deliver humanity from pangs of spiritual backwardness, ignorance and poverty”
Among the achievements of revd Ositelu during his tenure are the establishment of 1000 branches all over the world, increasing the strength of the members to 8.8 million worshipers, creation of 3,595 parishes, given the Tabieorar complex a new face-lift which has the followings such as media house, extension of alter, message and female prelate’s platforms, 40 modern toilets, construction of the choir stand etc, creation of 26 dioceses and 6 provinces.
