The rejection of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, as the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, by the former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and some Northern elders may disunite the Party, ahead of the 2023 Presidential Election.
It was reported by Daily Post, that the former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and the PDP Chieftains, have rejected the former Vice President, Atiku as the Northern Presidential Consensus Candidate.
With this , the elders may have endorsed the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed as the Northern Presidential Consensus Candidates, ahead of the 2023 Presidential election.
IBB was said to have carried out the necessary consultations, with elders and Leaders in the three Geopolitical Zones in the North, under the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, before he resolved that Governor Bala Mohammed, from the Northeast and Senator Saraki from the North Central, should be Presented as the Northern Consensus Candidates for the Moment.
However, The rejection of Atiku by some Northern elders as the Consensus Presidential Candidate, may disunite the Peaceful coexistence within the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
It should be recalled, that the Governor of Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike who had also declared his Presidential Ambition to contest under the Platform of the Party, had insisted that, he won’t accept any consensus mode of Picking Presidential Candidate, for the Party.
Meanwhile, Atiku has also been edged out, of the Presidential race. This means that, If Atiku and Governor Wike could fail to accept Bala Mohammed and Saraki as the Consensus Presidential Candidates, the Party may lose the forthcoming Presidential race.
The reason is that, both Governor Wike and Atiku Abubakar are very strong in the Party. Atiku’s Political structure in PDP, is all across the Country. Therefore, If Atiku should team up with Governor Wike, PDP may find it difficult to win the Forthcoming Presidential Election.
It should be recalled, that Governor Wike had started his consultations, across the country to seek for the Support of Prominent Leaders of the PDP. The same thing goes to Atiku, who contested the last Presidential race, under the Platform of the Party.
However, The Elders of the Party must do the necessary things, by summon all the PDP stakeholders, across the country into the meeting, before annoiting a particular Presidential Candidate for the Party in the forthcoming Presidential race.
Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who is also eyeing the Presidency, has also been edged out of the Consensus. This means that, the consensus is Partial and all the notable Leaders were not carried along.
