Kosofe II Bye Election: Moves for Consensus candidate suffer hitch,aspirants root for primaries

Aspirants jostling for the vacant seat of Kosofe constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, on the All Progressives Congress (APC) party’s platform have resolved for primaries as party’s leaders and elders effort to select a consensus candidate fails.
The leadership of the party in an in house arrangement, alledgedly summoned all leading aspirants to a meeting on Saturday and tried to prevail on them to stepdown for each other so to churn out a consensus candidate capable to slug it out with any candidate put forward by the major opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) come October 30th.
The aspirants, who had already kickstarted their lined out programmes and manifestoes to get the attention of the party’s leaders,so as to be their favoured consensus candidate eventually got their hope dashed as the leaders of the party failed to reach an agreement on who should fly the party’s flag.
The aspirants were said to have insisted that they had all laboured for the growth and development of the party in one form or the other and so it would be disservice to give up at this essential period.
One of the leaders who spoke with newsmen on a condition of anonymity, disclosed that the party may end up settling for the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the party who is clearly a leading aspirant, Hon. Abiodun Musiliu Salami, as its candidate considering his long years of service to the party in the constituency and the state at large.
” The outcome of the meeting we had at the leadership level before we summon the aspirants was that the Assistant Publicity Secretary of our party at the State level, Abiodun Salami, should fly the party’s flag having considered his outstanding records and excellent performance at that level.
” All the Council Chairmen, Omooba Sosanya, Commissioner Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, State Assembly Member, Hon Ganiyu Okanlawon (kosofe Const1) , Alhaja Kafilat Ogbara, Pa Steven Oyedele, and former Hon Commissioner Bosun jeje are strongly for Salami candidature”, said the Leader.
” The leaders met with the aspirants and none was willing to step down for each other making it imminent that the aspirants will have to face the party primaries as spelt out in the party constitution.
” The leaders and the party are still hopeful that some aspirants will step down before the primaries as consultation continues”, said the Leader.
It is pertinent to state that there are almost 10 aspirants already jostling for the party’s ticket to contest the Kosofe Constituency II bye election,which would take place on the 31st of October to replace the late Hon. Tunde Braimoh who died on the 10th of July 2020.
Some of the aspirants who had paid their dues in the state and are vying for the seat includes; Hon Abiodun Musiliu Salami, Femi Saheed , Hon Abiodun Akhigbe and Yakub balogun.
