Ifako-Ijaiye Trains Market Women on Financial Literacy, to Empower Them With Trade Credit

It was yet another day of empowerment in Ifako-Ijaiye on Thursday 30th September 2021. The venue was the magnificently decorated hall of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Monumental Civic Centre. Participating market women were divided into clusters. Each cluster being taught different aspect of financial literacy.
The Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Hamzat, congratulated the participants for being part of the programme. He said the programme was aimed at delivering the women from the shackles of loan agents who charged them exorbitant interests.
According to the Chairman, after their training, participants would be given trade credit in which they would be given products to sell on credit. They were to return the cost of the products after sale and keep their profit.
This was coming barely a week after 250 market women were empowered with business training and fifty thousand Naira each to support their businesses.
Prince Hamzat thanked Adara Foundation for partnering with the Local Government to deliver the project.
Adara Foundation’s Lead, Mrs. Omobolaji Lana, praised the Executive Chairman for his thoughtfulness and passion for the welfare of the people of Ifako-Ijaiye.
According to Mrs. Lana, over 300 people were to benefit from the Financial Literacy Programme (FLP) and Trade Credit Programme (TCP).
Some of the topics to be covered in the training included Book keeping, Borrowing Smartly, Savings and Budgeting.
The Vice Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Awoniyi-Akerele, encouraged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity being given to them.
Also in her own remark, the Iyaloja-General of Ifako-Ijaiye, Chief (Mrs.) Doyin Coker-Ogunbiyi, thanked the Chairman for his numerous programmes aimed at empowering women in the Local Government Area. She encouraged the beneficiaries to value the empowerment so that it could grow in their hands.
Other guests at the event included the Council Manager, Mr. Abdulraheem Ogunbambi; APC Women Leader in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA, Alhaja Adeyinka Fetuga; the HOD Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Mustapha Mosidat Abiola,and the HOD Education, Alhaja Modupe Ogungbo-Alimi.
