

Diginitaries converged in Lagos recently for the unveiling of Afrikafest a, creative platform geared towards promoting and preserving African Crafts in Nigeria. The initiative is the brainchild of Ms. Bolatito Sowunmi, Creative Director and Designet at Sapphire Blue Creative Minds.
Sowunmi had carved a niche for herself in the creative industry playing the role of Ms. Pepeiye in the popular and widely acclaimed Wale Adenuga Production sitcom “Papa Ajasco and Company.”
While speaking at the event, Sowunmi noted that AfrikaFest seeks to create an avenue to showcase creative talents to the World. She further said her goal is to establish a hub where African made Crafts can compete favourably with those made in foreign countries, ”
Furthermore, we intend to merge the Creative Arts with Music as we are committed to contributing our own quota to the development of arts and crafts in Nigeria.”
Also speaking, a visual artist, Ekene Ngige stressed that art is life, urging people to patronize made-in-Nigeria goods,” This is the only we can develop and improve on the usage of local content. We need to encourage ourselves first before foreigners can do same.”
The highpoint of the event was the unveiling 9f thr ArtFrika Fest stand, a symbol that the initiative has come tp stay A fundraising ceremony also took place in support of the visioner’s brand.
