… Says “No One Wants to Be ‘Area Boy'”
Oshodi-Isolo local government chairman, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede has disclosed that his administration will tackle the menance of ‘area boys’ in his council through training and empowerment.
The council boss who was speaking on Inspiration 92.3 FM Talk Show on Saturday said, no one wants to be an area boy, but they turned one, as a means of survival and it is also as a result of lack of training and empowerment for the teeming youths, this, he said, his administration will tackle head long.
He said; “No one is wiling to be area boy but because of lack of empowerment and training of these youths, to the best of my knowledge, they chose to go on the streets for survival. This, our administration has seen and we are going to tackle it through training and empowerment, we will educate and empower them to become useful to themselves and the community at large.”
Speaking on influx of okada riders and multiple tax in Oshodi and other parts of Lagos state, the council helmsman, said the case of multi taxing is no longer existing in Oshodi.
He said; “Since we came in, we have changed the narratives, you won’t see those boys collecting money from Okada riders in Oshodi Isolo again.”
Oloyede speaking on how he has been able to transform the local government through infrastructure, said his drive and passion for development of his community is his driving force.
The Oshodi-Isolo local government chairman while reeling out his achievements in office within 100 days said his administration has been able to construct 24 roads out of which 21 are completed, 12 pipe borne water, one staff bus, two ambulance buses and empowerment programmes among others.
He said; “At the beginning of our administration, we declared state of emergency on roads and today we have constructed 24 roads with 21 completed. We have also constructed 12 borehole water in our council, about 400 indigent students were given free GCE forms, over 600 youth were trained in special vocations under 100 days in office ,we have purchased staff bus for members of staff. Also on my first month of office, I gave an instant employment to a visually impaired lawyer.
“My administration has also purchased two ambulance buses for our health sector to ease their service delivery at times of emergency, we have also supported the best junior secondary school in Nigeria, Bolade Junior Grammar School with digital learning tools such as smart tv, projector, generator, walkie talkie and other tools to aid learning in the school.”
