A source from the family, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident.
The source who hinted that the family is preparing a statement to announce his demise said the third republic passed on Saturday evening.
Nzeribe who has been ill some time has been on life support.
Nzeribe, a First Republic politician represented Imo West at the National Assembly.
The longest serving Senator from Imo has been ill for some time.
He was born on November 2, 1938.
At 22, Nzeribe hit a mega fortune, becoming a major player in the nation’s financial sector.
Providence smiled on him and he became so powerful and influential in Nigeria’s political landscape.
His group, ABN was instrumental to the cancellation of June 12 Presidential election by military junta, President Ibraheem Babangida when he went to court to annul the election. Late chief Moshood Abiola won that election. The election was adjudged the freest in Nigeria’s electoral history.
He was elected a Senator to represent Orlu in 1999.
