MESSAGE BY THE FIRST LADY OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, HER EXCELLENCY, SENATOR OLUREMI TINUBU CON ON THE OCCASION OF THE 2023 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN, 8TH OCTOBER, 2023
On this International Women’s Day, I celebrate the remarkable achievements of women in Nigeria and around the world.
I recognize the vital role women play in our society, from the boardroom to the classroom, from healthcare to politics. I celebrate the achievements of women who have broken barriers , shattered glass ceilings and paved the way for others, but I also acknowledge the challenges that we still face.
This year’s theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality,” reminds us of the pivotal role technology plays in advancing gender equity.
In our ever-evolving world, technology has become an essential tool for empowerment and progress. It is not gender bias.
The theme is a reminder that technology can be a powerful force for change, leveling the playing field and promoting gender equity.
On my part, I am committed to promoting the empowerment of women and girls through digital innovation.
This is exemplified by the Renewed Hope Initiative commencing ICT and Digital skills training for women, in partnership with National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA )which will be taken to the 6 geo-political zones of the federation.
In today’s digital age, access to technology is not a luxury but a necessity. It is a tool that can break down barriers, open doors to education and economic opportunities, and amplify the voices of women everywhere.
A future where every girl dreams without limits, and every woman reaches her full potential. A future where “DigitALL” truly means all, regardless of gender.
Remember, the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Technology should not be a barrier to this.
Happy International Women’s Day!
SENATOR OLUREMI TINUBU, CON
First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
