Globaltimes The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has sacked Caleb Mutfwang of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the Governor of Plateau State, stating that he wasn’t qualified to stand for the election.
A three-member panel headed by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu in its judgment Sunday said Muftwang was sponsored by a party without a structure, citing a Plateau State High Court decision that had previously dissolved the leadership of the PDP in the state.
The Court held that the PDP candidate wasn’t validly sponsored to run for governor as the party neither held Congresses at both the Ward and Local government levels.
Meanwhile, a human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has said that the appeal court judgement sacking Plateau State Governor is confusing,
But Iniebehe in a post on X, said that there are supreme court judgments to the effect that sponsorship of candidates is by the national leadership of political parties and not by state organs.
While saying that he was waiting to see the certified true copy of the judgment, he asked if the issue was a pre-election or post-election matter.
“Sponsorship of a candidate is done by the National Leadership of the Party as held by the Supreme Court in many cases.
“A candidate is not sponsored by the State organ of a political party.
“I don’t understand this judgment but I’m open to understanding it.
“Let’s have the Certified True Copy.
“Also, is this a pre-election or post-election dispute?
“I’m confused,” his post reads.
