Following the arrest of her nationals at the protest against #badgovernment recently, the Polish government has explained their connection with the hunger protest in Nigeria.
The foreigners were apprehended by Nigerian security operatives on suspicion of having a big hands in the protest against biting hardship, which will come to end today with a massive protests tagged, ‘One-million-man’ scheduled across the states including Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The seven Poles brought arrest on themselves by waving Russian flags during Tuesday’s protest in Kano.
On Friday, the Polish government through its Deputy foreign minister Jakub Wisniewski made a case for their release.
This, the government did when Wisniewski met with Nigeria´s charge d´affaires in Warsaw.
Wisniewski said the arrested persons – a lecturer and six students, are from Warsaw University, and are in Nigeria to take part in a Hausa language programme.
“During the meeting, I conveyed that I was convinced that the students´ behavior could have resulted from their ignorance of local customs, culture and laws.
“I appealed for the possibility of their return to Poland, to their homes, where their families are waiting for them,” he said while giving the account of the meeting at which he pushed back at the report that the detainees carried Russian flags given that Russia is not a favourite with Poles on account of what the people of the Central European country went through under Russian rule
