After continued military land and air bombardments of their enclaves and hideouts in the North East, another 1,081 Boko Haram terrorists, several Senior Commanders, and their families have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai.
This comes as it becomes clear that internal squabbles, combined with overwhelming starvation, internal and health issues, and immeasurable misery, have made life miserable for terrorists.
Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, confirmed this in a statement on Monday, adding that more weapons and ammunition were collected from the surrendering militants.
“Following the recent escalation of offensive operations coupled with non-kinetic efforts by troops of operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), which resulted in massive surrendering of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province Terrorists in the North East, the Chief Bomb Expert of the terrorists group known as Musa Adamu a.k.a Mala Musa Abuja and his second in command Usman Adamu a.k.a Abu Dar in the North East, the Chief Bomb Expert.
“On Saturday, 7 August 2021, Brigadier General Abdulwahab Adelokun Eyitayo, acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 OPHK, was at Headquarters 21 Special Armoured Brigade Bama to receive the set of surrendered Boko Haram terrorists and their families.
During the visit, the GOC praised their choice to lay down their arms and come out, saying that they should strive to persuade their brothers and colleagues in the forest to join them in the new life of peace and rehabilitation.
“General Eyitayo, who spoke through an interpreter, also revealed that they will go through some sort of rehabilitation at a government facility before being reintegrated into society.
“While distributing new clothes, assorted food items, groceries, and toiletries to 335 surrendered terrorists and their families, including one of the abducted Chibok girls, we distributed new clothes, assorted food items, groceries, and toiletries to the surrendered terrorists and their families, totaling 335 fighters, 746 adult women and children, and one of the abducted Chibok girls, the grounds for such a big shift were attributed to the escalated Nigerian military campaign against their enclaves and environs, as well as the overwhelming starvation, discontent, internal squabbles, health difficulties, and unimaginable hardship.
“The Nigerian military has resolved to intensify both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to the ongoing insurgency in order to capitalize on the knowledge of Musa Adamu and Usman Adamu, as well as the current wave of terrorist turnout, to achieve both short and long-term counter-insurgency gains in the North East
